Villa Pre Season Highlights Focus on Jordan Amavi and Jerrell Sellars

Pre Season Highlights

While other Premier League clubs wow the media in far off lands, Aston Villa’s on-field pre season has been low-key compared to the major player exodus off it.

While Delph was hissing phoney loyalty and Benteke was completing the most drawn out transfer in Villa history, on the field, Tim Sherwood has been trying to rally his depleted squad into some kind of unit, and having a good look at the youth at his disposal.

Jerrell Sellars

In the second video below are the highlights between what was supposed to be Aston Villa’s Under-21’s vs Forest Green, but the Villa team started with the likes of Libor Kozak, Charles N’Zogbia, Aly Cissokho, Joe Cole, Alexsander Tonev, Kieran Richardson and Nathan Baker in the starting line-up.

On top of seeing the rarity of a Tonev goal (although there’s an example of his standard level of shooting too), the video is worth watching for a brace from Jerrell Sellars, who also scored on his first team debut in the 2-0 friendly win against Swindon the day before. The 19-year-old’s second (5.50 on the video) against Forest Green is certainly a cheeky one.

Jordan Amavi

First though is a video that solely focuses on the contribution of Villa’s new left-back Jordan Amavi. You’ll see straight away his confidence and ease on the ball, plus he looks more useful going forward than any Villa left-back in recent times.

  1. How many of the current squad would fetch more than 5m how many would get into Stokes, or Southampton team Grealish, Richards? Now im struggling, With the club not sold and more disillusion hopefully we will escape relegation but im not confident. And after I thought the club was being sold I have now changed my mind on a season ticket

Westbrom in the FA cup and everton in the league! two great matches that will live long in the memory, completely erasing the days I sat watching the drawl with MacLeish and lambert respectively!
There is nothing that can ever come close to that day in recent history!
It was my wifes first game of football ever and after dressing our 4 kids up in aston villa kits every weekend and screaming from the north for three years, her reward for that faith was delivered that day at villa park!!

  3. With all the transfer talk — Gueye, Richards, etc. coming in — big holes where Delph and Benteke departed — and the resurgence of Carles Gil to play alongside Westwood and Sanchez… whatever happened to Leandro Bacuna? He made a real difference when he had a chance to contribute offensively, especially on those few occasions when he wasn’t forced to play on the back line.

    • JoeUSA, I am with you. Bac is not a RB, but he is a friggn amazing RM. He needs cover behind him, but can defend a bit and those crosses, wow, better than Young. Who is not welcome back IMO.

      • Oh yeah, Dead balls, who was the last free kick specialist at Villa park? Think Bac has earned his shot.
