AWOL Aston Villa Players Return from Wilderness in Friendly Match

Aston Villa Players Return…

While Aston Villa have been struggling with a terrifying 10 losses in 13 games, questions have often been asked about the whereabouts of certain players.

What happened to Libor Kozak? He’d played in preseason and scored goals after a long-term injury, but then he vanished. What happened to Adama Traore? An exciting £7 million purchase from Barcelona, who also seemed to have disappeared from match day squads. Gary Gardner and Jores Okore, also were players that would strengthen the match day squad; weren’t they supposed to fit and training again, yet there’s been no sign of them either.

After seeing Charles N’Zogbia make his most recent resurrection from the dead under Rémi Garde, there seemed hope for any exiled Villa player. Even Philippe Senderos, whom we’re glad to report is still alive.

All of the above Villa players played 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly tonight against Fleetwood Town. Villa won the match at Bodymour Heath 5-2 (maybe they should move all Villa home games there?) with goals from Villa U-21 skipper Jordan Lyden (2), Traore (2) and N’Zogbia.

There’s no doubt the return of all these players will give the new Villa boss much needed options, as he seeks to leave no stone unturned to get as many points as possible to keep Villa in contention before the January window opens.

The arranging of such a game to build fitness and give Garde a proper chance to see players in an 11 vs 11 match situation, stresses the urgency that the Villa boss must be feeling.

Come Wednesday this week, Villa would have gone 200 days without a home win. It’s a run run Villa can ill-afford to continue on Saturday against Watford.
