Boxing Day Prematch Villa Park Tribute and Display

Jody O’Reilly Boxing Day Villa Park Tribute

It’s great to hear that the club have responded to both Aston Villa supporters and the friends of the late Villa fan Jody O’Reilly to have a minute’s applause tribute before the Boxing Day match against Crystal Palace.

Due to the nature of the incident that led to Jody’s passing and the fact he was hours away from attending Villa Park for the United game, it creates a unique situation where such a tribute is a justifiable cause of action. From all the accounts of the personality of Jody from his friends, the minute’s applause proposed by the club is pitch perfect and meets the huge demand for it with a fb group of over 12,000 supporting a Jody O’Reilly tribute.

A minute’s silence perhaps is a big ask considering the occasions it is normally reserved for. While a minute’s applause, certainly after what Stiliyan Petrov received on a gamely basis, is now a Villa tradition.

This club is built on the foundation of its supporters, so it’s good to see that getting recognition, albeit in sad circumstances.

Also, during this applause there will be the flag display in L8 of the Holte End,  which was already organised by the Brigada 1874 group. There will also now be a banner on display in tribute to Jody.

It’s great to see the club and supporters come together on such an occasion. Also, lets hope the prematch ceremonies will give a jolt to the Villa Park atmosphere that will help spur the team on to three points.

After all, a win would be the best possible tribute of all.

In the meantime, from all at MOMS, have a safe and amazing Christmas. UTV

  1. Our football club is so much more than just what the players do out on the pitch. That’s why I’m proud to be a villan! Merry Christmas everybody! 🙂
