Excuses, Excuses, Excuses – Villa’s Don’t Stack Up Compared to Other Teams

    Excuses, Excuses…

Below is a comment from Villa supporter Kezz Furber on MOMS Facebook today. While joking in tone towards the end, it does raise some good points about the validity of some of Villa’s excuses in recent years compared to some of the teams that are now actually beating us.

If you think Villa have got problems, what about the struggles of the likes of Luton Town, Cardiff City, Preston North End in recent years, and more recently, the two teams that have beaten Villa in the past week?

    Over to Kezz…

I read endless threads on social media from Villa fans left scratching their heads as to why we are currently where we are. The most common explanations for out plight include: new owner; new manager; new players; the club’s been in decline since MON left; MON himself; the club has a curse on it: not Bruce’s players; it’ll take until at least next season before our players and new manager gel, etc. etc. etc.

The other night, we were beaten by Brentford, a two-bit team on a run down, old fashioned ground (who were in Divisions Two a few seasons ago). They’re a side who’ve never really been in the ascendancy and yet beat us on the very day that they’d lost their star striker, Scott Hogan. Despite being below us in the table, they still managed to stick three past us and played some wonderful football too.

We were beaten yesterday by a Forest team that’s been in decline for decades and had just lost their start player and Captain, Henry Lansbury – who was now playing against them.

We were eventually sunk by a 17-year-old debutant who cost them nothing and took approximately 15 minutes to gel into his new role before banging one in to beat our £100m plus pile of uninspired morons. On top of that, they have a sh*t owner and don’t even have a manager. They are also below us in the division.

Have a chew on that for a while and then let’s see what other banal excuses our fans can come up with to justify why we’re so sh*t – and have been for around seven years now, despite huge sums of money spent, magnificent support home and away, some of the best Academy and training facilities in the country and plenty of big name managers and players who are being paid an absolute fortune in comparison to most at this level.

I’m not moaning by the way, I’m demanding an independent inquiry, because I reckon our club has been hacked by the Russians and our B6 water will be found to contain traces of Polonium 220, our players will have been eating too much burnt toast and our owner is really an undercover Chinese spy who’s come to steal the blueprint for the famous television programme, Strictly Come Cup Cake.

Please add these to the AVFC list of infinite excuses and let’s have a mass debate – all over again.

    1. If any one thinks you get tired kicking a ball after training is simple none of you have played pro football let me tell you the training is about as hard as beating eggs mo farah runs over a hundred miles a week you don’t see him crying he’s tired do you no doing ball control passing and dribbling shooting practice isn’t hard unless your a pussy fergie did it and look at him and when they performed he let them do normal training if we pay to watch we have every right to moan and I’m not saying we have a right to beat anyone but as paying supporters we do have the right to see some pride in their performance without that then this club is dead if their beaten by a better performance I can live with that but most performances this season have been shite to say the least and you never throw the towel in

    2. Aston Villa have no God given right to beat anyone, and as long as Villa fans think we have, and keep piling this ridiculous pressure on players, owner and manager for instant results the situation will not improve, every team we play against has the added incentive to beat us because of our perceived arrogance and the way we treat every opponent with disdain and ridicule, the club has been in decline on and most importantly off the pitch since RL lost interest after MON left, we have a fantastic owner, a proven manager lots of very good players, particularly at this level, the Villa fans need to start being more supportive of the club and stop the constant criticism.

    3. One simple answer stop letting players on 25-45 grand a week train for 3 hours a day they need to train then stay and do some extra passing, shooting dribbling drills then do some ball control and the old attack and defence (obviously with more attackers ) I would do this from now to the end of the season to make sure we don’t get relegated and then call them back in early for pre-season training and do the same till the season starts that way they will be fitter but not to tired to run for 90 minutes once or twice a week this way the link up play will improve as they will be spending more time together so this players gelling bollox can be put to bed (man u have had 6 or 7 squads since the inception of the premier league )how many titles did they win more than we’ve won games in the last 2 years probably were else do you get 40k a week for 25 hours of graft stop the pampering as pro rata some of these bums are on nearly 80k a week make them earn it tony and bring in a motivational speaker as Bruce isn’t up to it as he’s proven with Ross, and he’s team selection and tactics leave a lot to be desired

      • Aye flog them ’till they drop & then flog them some more ! They gotta understand fans want to see them suffer for their dosh . And then berate them when they are physically too tired to perform come match day !

    4. This team will go up next season. Anyone thinking we were automatic or playoffs this, does not understand footy. This is not Xbox or PlayStation.

Modern fans would of seen Saunders sacked. Stop bed wetting and start acting like supporters. Some of the comments I see are not only embarrassing, but show I complete lack of understanding. Hang your fucking heads.

    5. Bruce has to find another jedinak as cover , another proven keeper
and still has a lot of dead wood players to ship out . The play offs a
Fantasy panto like Mcgate,Gabby,Richards,Hutton. Unless you win matches
Your p45 is always hovering. Just look at Ranieri,Leic etc. Bruce is safe, but
Needs results ASAP or its over before its begun. ( did it ever start) .not yet.

    6. it will come,,,,, we just need to keep calm and get get behind the team

the team is just needing a few scruffy wins and the confidence will come

    7. Just read Bruce’s report on the game and guess what it was the referee’s fault and the goal was offside, plus their keeper was MOM, what else will he come up with, no blame for himself, sorry but no more confidence in Bruce, for me he is inept and not up to it.

    8. Great article, there’s a cancer about the whole club millions spent by an excellent owner on let’s face it very good players with proven ability, and with no disrespect to Brentford, Forest, etc we should be out of site, on paper it’s a no contest, the same applies to our so called promotion expert manager who makes the most basic of errors, rubbish team selection, rubbish substitutions yesterday, all excuses. I honestly don’t know the answer, but I can’t see giving Bruce more time is the solution, everyone says relegation is not an issue and of course we hope that is the case but the fact is we are nearer the drop zone than we are the play offs and at the moment we are in free fall, going backwards at an alarming rate. Yes Grealish was an idiot but I really don’t think that we should accept that if we go down to 10 we are bound to loose. Albeit we did, I put that down to subs.
I wish I could be more positive as a very long standing Villa supporter but I’m just as baffled as everyone else and I’m sick and tired of loosing week after week.

      • Being sick & tired of losing is a symptom of the malaise that has infected the club for years . Living in the North West I regularly hear various comments about our fans rather than the club , such who do the Villa fans think they are ,and descriptions that suggest our fans are too big for their boots
Mistakes happen , but they happen more frequently when a team / person is under pressure to perform . As for being nearer the drop zone than promotion with being 14th of 28 means there are 14 teams below us so how can we be nearer the drp zone as there must only be 13 teams above us ?
As for sacking Bruce that wil place us 1 manager closer to relegation ! 8 players in & out over the past month virtually means we have a new team who need to get to know one another !
But if fans need more reason to know what is wrong the winning goal came from a Forest youngster who was being cheered on by their fans ! But it seems our fans only want to see our youngsters play so that they can jeer @ them when they fail !
There are too many who watch Villa to count how many faults they make when as fans they should be looking for positives such as the fact we had more shots on target than Forest , which in itself is an improvement as of late we’ve been failing to do so !

        • So if we continue to have more shots on target than the teams we have yet to play, but lose all those games because of continued ineptitude, is that an improvement? Or do we have to continue wearing blinkers?

          • Of course all the keepers in the next 17 matches will get MOM awards by your recconing !
And of course if you only want to look for mistakes ,you do need to keep on wearing blinkers
