Gabby Agbonlahor Signs New Four-Decade Deal

Yesterday MOMS ran a post declaring it was Defcon 2 in terms of needing to get the four final-year contracts renewed of Jack Grealish, Fabian Delph, Ron Vlaar and Gabby Agbonlahor.

It seems the club have read it and fearing the potential nuclear fallout out of Villa supporter stress if the situation ever got to Defcon 1, news of new contracts being offered to Delph and Grealish have started to circulate in the press.

More concrete news of four-year contracts offered to both Delph and Grealish will hopefully be forthcoming soon when the club finally sits down with the pair. Vlaar is another story and a case of watch this space.

In the meantime though, Villa fans will be hearten by the news that Agbonlahor has signed a new contract as expected.

Wrongly reported as a four-year deal in the press, the contract is actually a four-decade extension to the rolling contract the Villa striker has been on since he signed for the club in 1874.

agbonlahor signs new contract

Agbonlahor said after penning the new deal, he was surprised as everyone to still be playing in the league his best mate at school William McGregor set up all those years ago.

Agbonlahor remains untouched as the longest-serving player in the history of game anywhere on the planet. A player that has entertained many a generation of Villa fan at Villa Park over the years with his pace and power.

While a certain quarter of Villa fans question the amount of goals he’s scored considering the time he’s been at the club, most still view him as a valuable member of the squad and on his day, a handful for any defence.

The Birmingham Mail today reported Agbonlahor had taken a pay cut in committing his future to the club, which apparently he’s been doing every time he’s renewed his contract over the past century. It makes you wonder how much Villa paid him back in the day when he first signed?!

Anyway, on a more serious note, lets hope Gabby signing his new contract is the first of four signatures being scribbled down this month committing to the Villa cause. UTV

  2. One down three to go… Line in a thrash metal song from the middle ages.

His quote on the club sticking by him is interesting, think Delph will say the same thing. Wonder if Vlaar and Grealish will too.

To Mr Lerner and Mr Fox, Thank You.

  3. The boy done good! I hope Lambert offered him the irresistible lure of a zero hours contract combined with a bonus scheme that pays £100,000 a goal or assist in a winning performance. But I doubt it.
