FSF AWARDS VOTE DEADLINE DAY

I’ve never been a big fan of awards. Having been a film journalist for over 10 years, I couldn’t care less about the Oscars, BAFTA’s, Golden Globes etc. They were ultimately about commerce rather than the art and powered the marketing infrastructure of the industry.

MOMS has previously won two national Football Blogging Awards, but I personally never attended the awards. The first time in 2012, because I was attending a Bruce Springsteen concert instead, but the second time in 2014, I boycotted them on purpose as it was very apparent their focus wasn’t independent football blogs anymore, but courting favour of media companies, PR companies, betting companies, celebs and advertising agencies.

It’s a shame, as it would be great for people who put a lot of hard work and effort into independent football blogs to get proper recoginition.

One awards that is more about football than advertising is the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) awards. The FSF is one establishment that MOMS has been proud to be part of and to have worked with over the years on various supporter issues.

Securing the Premier League £30 away ticket price cap was the last successful thing we were involved in, but sods law, Villa were relegated before we could all take advantage of the fruits of our labour!

Anyways, their awards have some good category’s including Best Away Day, Men’s Player of the Year, Best Newspaper of the Year, Best Pundit, Best Blogger etc – so get involved!

While you’re there, since these are legit awards, if you want to show some love for MOMS efforts over the years, that would be very kind of you.

Just vote for ‘David Michael – My Old Man Said’ in the ‘Blogger of the Year’ category.

The deadline is today, so please vote below:

SAFE STANDING

In the next for weeks MOMS will be stepping up the Safe Standing push to try and get Aston Villa increasingly public about trying to introduce a trial into Villa Park. There’s various steps at government & council level that need addressing, but supporters and the clubs must lobby them to speed up the process.

Also, we want to start talks with the club in terms of having a section at Villa Park for flags and displays. If you want to get involved in that, drop us a line on: contact@myoldmansaid.com

Many thanks.
