Aston Villa Announce New Number 10 and Other New Squad Numbers

Aston Villa’s New No.10

The club’s announcement today that they will be allow supporters to exchange any Jack Grealish No. 10 home or away 2021/22 shirts (see details below), included a list of shirt number changes from last season.

The main change was Emiliano Buendía taking over the departing Grealish’s No.10, cementing the key role the Argentine is expected to play.

Meanwhile, Morgan Sanson takes the number 8 shirt. The French midfielder is still a bit of an unknown quantity in a Villa shirt. If he can get back to full fitness after being sidelined over the majority of preseason and get up to speed with the Premier League, he could potentially make a difference in upgrading the Villa midfield.

Emi Martínez and Matt Targett also take more traditional first XI numbers with 1 and 3 respectively.

New Aston Villa 2021/22 Numbers

1 – Emi Martínez

3 – Matt Targett

8 – Morgan Sanson

10 – Emiliano Buendía

18 – Ashley Young

20 – Danny Ings

  1. No squad number announced for Leon Bailey? I’m aware of the speculation that someone who we paid £25million for and had the number nine shirt at Leverkusen for the last four years has not been given a number yet, and what that means for Wesley’s future at the club. Don’t entirely buy it. But still. Strange he hasn’t been allocated a number yet.
