Aston Villa Close to Major Transformation but Home Form Needs Addressing

Villa Park Form Frustrations

If there’s one thing about Aston Villa that is top of Unai Emery’s list to improve is his team’s form at Villa Park. In the period since the Spaniard took over as Villa’s Head Coach, Villa place 8th in the Premier League on results.

Villa’s away form of four wins in five sees them rank third in the league, since Emery has been at the club, giving a clear indication that it is their home form that is holding the team back.

During this period under the new boss, Villa rank 13th in the Premier League with only two wins and a draw in six games at Villa Park.

It’s been fine margins that have stopped Villa making even greater progress under Emery. In recent weeks, if Leon Bailey scores in the final seconds against Wolves and Villa didn’t commit the defensive errors against Leicester City, then the picture looks decidedly different.

Just turning those two games (which they were favourites in) turning into wins, would see Villa with a top four form record in the Premier League table since Emery took over.

Missing Against Palace

While Philippe Coutinho will be out until after the international break and Diego Carlos will probably return after it as well, the only additional player to miss out against Crystal Palace will be Leander Dendoncker, who misses the game due to personal reasons.

Something for the Weekend

In a shorter Something for the Weekend podcast episode than usual (less than 15 minutes, so still possible to cram in before the match), we preview Aston Villa’s home clash with Crystal Palace, where Unai Emery will have a great opportunity to get the home form on point.
