Aston Villa Continue to Cut “Bloated” Squad as Two Players Set to Head Out

Davis and Kesler-Hayden Heading Out

It’s been reported in the national and local media that deals have firmed up for season-long loans for both Keinan Davis to Watford and Kaine Kesler-Hayden to Huddersfield. Both deals are expected to be confirmed in the next 24 hours or so.

Update: Aston Villa have confirmed the Kesler-Hayden loan move

Villa boss Steven Gerrard had indicated during Aston Villa’s preseason tour in Australia that there was some squad trimming to do, but this duo of moves is also about shaping the squad for the future.

“The squad’s bloated at the moment in terms of numbers,” reflected Gerrard. “We need to make decisions and get people to places where they’re going to play regular football because, otherwise, they’re not going to get much.”

In the case of Davis, it’s also seems that a decision has been made on him in terms of his future at Villa. It’s thought that Watford will have an option to make Davis’s move to Vicarage Road permanent at the end of the season, when the striker will have one-year left on his Villa contract.

In the case Kesler-Hayden it will be about getting him game-time to build his experience at senior level. While he impressed in the cameos he had in preseason, it’s unrealistic that he’ll get much game time in a Villa shirt this season ahead of Matty Cash, so a Championship loan out makes perfect sense.

Hause Exit?

In other news, it seems that Watford are still interested in the services of Kortney Hause, who has fallen down the pecking order at Villa, after his injury and Diego Carlos coming to the club.
