Aston Villa Fans Living in the United States Experiences of Supporting Their Team

The LA Sessions

Following Aston Villa as a supporter living outside of the UK is a different way of life. There’s time zones to navigate, different TV networks to bear and flights to catch, if you want to make it Villa Park. On a recent trip to the USA, taking advantage of January sale flight prices, MOMS took time to have a couple of chats with Villans who follow their team while based in Los Angeles.

The two meetings form the basis of two My Old Man Said podcast episodes that discuss the experiences of supporting Villa from the City of Angels.

PART ONE

In the first of these shows, over a few beers on Sunset Boulevard, MOMS speaks to actor and writer Bob Stephenson about all things claret and blue…and, black and gold.

During our chat with the Villan of over 20-years, we find out about being soccer buddies with Tom and Colin Hanks, the intriguing rise of his other team LA FC, US academy development, his hatred of the Europa League, the early years of his Villa love affair and much more.

PART TWO

Having lived in LA for seven years, Danny De Lillo once walked down the Hollywood Walk of Fame, painted in claret and blue before the FA Cup final in 2015 to rally up support for Villa.

In our chat at his apartment overlooking downtown LA, we talk about that FA Cup stunt, those frustrating Kappa kits, following Villa long-distance, behind the scenes stories of the Scott Hogan Touch Count, the Egyptian/LGBT+ ‘All-in’ conflict and a lot more.

All the best to all the stateside Villans in lockdown due to COVID-19.
