Rémi Garde Faces Stern Premier League Competition for Loïc Rémy

A lot has been said about Rémi Garde’s quest to bring in Chelsea striker Loïc Rémy, who was allegedly up for being loaned out under the former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

There’s of course the French connection and the fact that he’s always proven himself a very capable goalscorer, which Villa are desperately in need of, but what’s the real likelihood of a deal happening?

What Aston Villa supporters need to know though is there are a bunch of clubs that are being linked with the French striker. Southampton, Swansea City and Crystal Palace are just three to recently have been reported to be interested in the striker, after West Ham had been interested in the close season (plus there’s interest from French clubs).

There’s no doubt Rémy would have sought to have a chat with Gus Hiddink to find out where he stands in the Dutchman’s mind with the January window coming up. The striker was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s latest game, a 2-2 home draw vs Watford, and he played the last quarter of hour in their previous game, a 3-1 home win vs Sunderland.

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s next game against Manchester United, we’ll soon see if Rémy has a real future in Hiddink’s eyes.

Rémy’s POV

Obviously from Rémy’s point of view, the player wants to leave so that he can receive regular playing time ahead of EURO 2016 and that doesn’t seem too likely at Chelsea, despite their current troubles.

Also, in Remy’s mind will be that any loan move should perhaps have potential to turn into a long-term move, since he’s been a bit of a journeyman in the Premier League since moving from France.

Remy’s goal scoring record when he plays, suggests he would be a great loan for a club, if they can snag him. Six in 16 for QPR and 14 in 26 for Newcastle, his previous records before signing for Chelsea.

Of all the teams in the race for his signature, perhaps Swansea City would benefit the most, as you could see his addition helping greatly in their bid to survive this season. It could rubber stamp their safety.

Crystal Palace though may still be entertaining dreams of Europe when January comes, so don’t overlook their thirst for his signature. A team on the up with a pacy forward line, maybe a big attraction for Rémy, along with the chance to link-up with national teammate Yohan Cabaye.

Yes, he’d improve Villa, but what would Rémy think about moving to a team that are potentially dead and buried by the time he joins them? Doesn’t sound like a lot of fun for any player. On the other hand, if Villa win a few games before signing him and his goals contribute to an unlikely escape, then he’d head to the EUROS as a miracle maker.

I’m be surprised if Villa do sign him, lets leave it at that.
