Aston Villa Midfielder Proves His Commitment by Signing New Long-term Deal

Douglas Luiz Signs New Aston Villa Deal

Aston Villa have announced that Douglas Luiz has signed a new long-term for the club, having reportedly previously resisted several bids north of £20m on the final day of the January transfer window.

While details are thin at the moment in terms of the contents of the contract, considering it’s taken until a few months into his final year, you’d imagine there would be some kind of soft release clause (certainly a relegation clause, considering Villa’s league table position!).

The 24-year-old midfielder has made over 100 appearances since he joined Villa in the summer of 2019 from Mancester City, making between 33 and 36 appearances in each of his three Premier League season.

Still, relatively young, it is hoped that there is more to come from Luiz, who has looked better when he has been player in advance of a defensive midfielder position. After scoring a couple of direct corners this season, it’s hoped he’ll recapture his distance shooting, after hitting two crackers in his first season at the club.

Certainly the Luiz signing is positive news in terms of gaging the current temperature within the club at the moment, as the hierarchy hold the line in face of growing supporter concern.

Ultimately, extending the current four-game unbeaten run and collecting a few wins are what’s needed though, but any doubts that Luiz’s heart might not be in it, have been vanquished with him putting pen to paper.
