#42 Aston Villa Miss Out on Big Preseason Friendly

It’s back.

The MOMS Podcast show returns after several weeks in exile. Amongst the claret and blue chat and analysis about the play-off destiny of Steve Bruce and his players, we also look at several issues connected to the present and future of Villa Park.

First, there’s the reason Villa missed out on a summer Villa Park preseason fixture versus Inter Milan. After our two memorable UEFA Cup clashes in the early in 1990’s, it’s always a match to look forward to. Hopefully, it can be staged in a future preseason soon.

We look at Tony Xia’s move to give the club some breathing space with FFP, in case Villa fail to get promoted this season.

We also address the recent unwelcome stance by Sports Minister Tracy Crouch on Safe Standing.

Crouch’s comments came after WBA application for safe standing was rejected, despite it being for legitimate safety reasons.

She said:

“There are regulations to deal with persistent standing — I would like to see them enforced.

While I appreciate there is a vocal minority who want a return to standing, I don’t think they speak for the majority.

The clubs aren’t convinced either… there is no desire among the top clubs to change this policy.”

To say her comments are out of touch of reality is an under statement. For example, both Aston Villa, as a club, and their supporters back safe standing, a stance that is replicated at every English club MOMS is aware of.
