Aston Villa Owner Confirms Approach Made For Leandro Bacuna

Apart from the returning Mile Jedinak and Jonathan Kodjia, there’s some players who have missed the bulk of Villa’s preseason that must be questioning their roles ahead in Villa’s 2017/18 season.

Albert Adomah is one, with the emergence of Ahmed Elmohamady offering Villa a fresh and more direct option on the right flank. Another one is Leandro Bacuna.

Bacuna has been away on international duty with Curaçao, so had been granted an extended stay away from Bodymoor Heath.

Villa’s utility player made his first preseason appearance against Watford, replacing an injured Jack Grealish.

Bacuna’s strength was his ability to play in a number of position, yet it’s also ultimately a weakness, as with Bruce building what he hopes to be a promotion-winning team, it’s hard to see where Bacuna fits in as a regular.

Today, Villa owner Tony Xia confirmed on Twitter that the club had rejected a £1.5m bid made by Reading for Bacuna, that was being reported in the press.

It will be interesting to see if this sparks an auction for the player and if they are any other interested parties.

Bacuna has been seen by many Villa supporters as an example of the mediocrity of player that has seen the club fall from grace in recent seasons.

MOMS for one, can’t see how he can fit in as part of a successful Villa team next season.

Certainly, he’s not going to play regularly for us, and like Nathan Baker, should seek a move away, if he is serious about his own footballing career.

The only question is, how much should Villa accept for him?

  1. I’ve been thinking about Mr. L. Bacuna for a couple of season now. I can’t ever make my mind up about him.
    Oh, actually I can.
Sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell.
    There, that’s better.
    Sell him.

  2. He should be kept.He is not being utilised well enough by the current and past Villa coaches. He is dangerous from set pieces and if played at the centre of a two or three man midfield, certainly more mobile than Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak.Clearly Jaap Stam knows that about him and that is why he bid for him in the first place.

    • I wouldn’t trust Bacuna to play centre of a two-man midfield, if I had any aspiration of winning promotion. It’s promotion or bust this season, and I wouldn’t risk the club on Bacuna!

  3. I think we should keep him for this season, my opinion he’s a decent player, and I agree totally a huge mistake selling Baker. I think we should be concentrating on our strikers apart from Kodjia I can’t see where our goals will come from, and if he gets injured , just like last season we are in trouble, we are in desperate need of back up for Kodjia and sorry to say Hogan doesn’t fill me with confidence. Neither does Green he might have potential but his decision making and final ball are terrible and not good enough at the moment.

  4. Would have no problem seeing the back of him whatsoever, he is still one of the main offenders from 15/16 who is still at the club, however for £1.5m it probably isn’t worth our while, simply for the versatility he offers if nothing else

  5. far better player than you think, never sell, fits in so many places

your opinion is wrong. sell of Baker another mistake, some injuries will come and we’ll have
a team of 30+ , i can tell youi a disaster will sturck and 3rd div. (old) is upon us….
