Aston Villa Podcast Up for National Award for Best Club Podcast

Football Supporters’ Association Awards 2019

This evening MOMS and contributors to the My Old Man Said podcast (Chris and Dan) will travel to London for the Football Supporters’ Association Awards 2019. These things are a bit of fun and with it’s Christmas timing, it nicely doubles up as the My Old Man Said Christmas party.

Thankfully, the award isn’t a public vote, which normally renders these sort of things fruitless when you have any Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United fan media in your category with their 100,000’s of followers on social media to call upon for votes.

Our fate is in the lap of the football gods…or a judging panel.

Club Podcast of the Year Nominees

Blue Moon (Man City), Fulhamish (Fulham), My Old Man Said (Aston Villa), Ringing the Blues (Wycombe Wanderers), The Squareball (Leeds United), Steve Bloomer’s Washing (Derby County).

At the end of the day though, I’m sure all the nominated football podcasts will agree, the only validation you need is from the listeners of the show. After all, no judging panel will enjoy or understand the show, as much as them.

Would a judging panel research the show deep enough to even know about ‘Twitter With Tony’, ‘Jedinak’s Jungle’ or the ‘Scott Hogan Touch Count Challenge’, probably not. Will they have heard us teleport back in time to pretend to do podcasts from different eras in Villa’s history? Probably not.

Still, to be nominated is better than not being nominated! Any bit of outside recognition is welcome and we are thankful to spend the evening at the wonderful setting of the Tower of London… and for the open bar.

MOMS was there last year for the 2018 awards, after being nominated for Best Fan Media, although we were just making up the numbers, with giants in the category such as The Anfield Wrap and The Arseblog. It’s a great setting, so we’re looking forward to the night ahead.

So, that leaves me to say a big thank you to all who have listened to the show and to those who have appeared on it during 2019. And a especial thanks to the MOMS Patrons, who have supported its existence. You’re the best!

Here’s to more audio fun and games in 2020!
