With Aston Villa players returning to training last week, the cautious transition from lockdown has begun for the Premier League. With the feeling that players will need at least three to four weeks training to be ready for games, it suggests the Premier League would potentially fire up the 2019/20 season again at end of June at the earliest.
It has to be stressed though, there’s a long way to go to it being green-lit. Whether it is safe or morally right to do so, remains open to question. As does the fate and timescale of the 2020/21 season taking place.
Beyond the financial concerns of the situation, which truth be told, is the main the reason the season hasn’t been voided yet, ala the French, Dutch or Belgium leagues, are the concerns of how Covid-19 impacts on the players health, especially the implications it has on any players with asthma-related conditions.
We discuss the context of restarting the Premier League, so-called ‘sporting integrity’ and the concerns of Villa CEO Christian Purslow in episode 104 of the My Old Man Said.
As well as discussing other interesting matters in the football world, including the recent US Women’s national team’s recent court date over equal pay, there’s plenty of light relief in the latest ‘Overrated and Underrated?’ segment of the show (see below notes for the trio of ex-Villans).

As the media tries to frame Premier League clubs against each other, as ‘Project Restart’ talks try to find some kind of momentum and direction, we look at Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow’s task in hand and what actually is integrity of competition?
