Aston Villa Sack Steven Gerrard, as Relegation Threat Stiffens

Steven Gerrard Fired

After a poor 3-0 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage, that rubber-stamped Aston Villa as legitimate relegation candidates, Steven Gerrard was relieved of his role as manager of Aston Villa. Such was the speed of the dismissal, football fans will have to rethink the traditional “You’re getting sacked in the morning” song. The club didn’t even take the night to sleep on it, issuing the following short statement:

Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.

A club spokesman said: “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.”

It’s been reported that one of Villa’s owners, Nassef Sawiris, left the Fulham game early, clearly not happy with Villa faltering performance. A performance that reached facial levels at Craven Cottage, as Villa internally combusted, getting a player sent off, conceding a penalty and scoring an own goal.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed, that pretty much the same group of players has failed to show any fight to save their last two managers, and with Villa only out of the relegation spots on goals scored, they are now in grave danger of the drop again.

The next managerial appointment now will certainly be an intriguing one. First of all, what top class manager will risk their reputation on a potential relegation battle? Never mind on a team that needs considerable surgery, before it competes at the top end of the table.

The honeymoon period of the owners is officially over and Gerrard won’t be the only member of the coaching staff to lose their job.

Concerning times at Villa…once again.
