Aston Villa Strengthen Their Backline with Familiar Face

As suggested in the last MOMS Transfer Wrap, Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe is back at Villa on a season-long loan. After his false start at Villa last season, due to several injuries, hopefully this time the defender can make more of impression.

Centre Back Option?

Villa still have a stockpile of right-backs, the position where the 20-year-old got his chance last season. So you would think he’d get his chance at centre back or as one of a back three. It’ll be interesting to see if Bruce decides to continue with his back three experiment of preseason, as Tuanzebe could be a good option for such a system.

Tuanzebe was back in action in the summer for United and was part of the club’s recent pre-season tour to the USA. He also played the last 11 minutes as a sub in the Red Devil’s weekend game against Bayern Munich, which they lost 1-0.

After signing for his season long with Villa, he admitted being familiar with the surroundings will no doubt help him hit the ground running with Villa.

Axel’s Promotion Call

“It made perfect sense for me to return for the season ahead. I know my way around the place now and owe a lot to the great people who’ve really looked after me,” he said.

“It was a no-brainer and now the ambition remains the same as last season – to reach the Premier League.

“I believe the squad we have here are more than capable of achieving it and playing at that level.”

If Villa supporters are asking themselves how can Villa improve on last season despite losing the likes of John Terry, Sam Johnstone, Lewis Grabban and Robert Snodgrass, an improved contribution from a fit Tuanzebe will certainly help. As he was one of several players in the squad that had a lot more to give to the cause.

Expect more new faces in soon.

  1. He has definitely got great potential and let’s hope we see some of it this term, he will obviously slot in well with our much younger team, and yes all looking promising but we do need a striker ASAP and if Grealish is going but for our valuation and not levy’s then I’m concerned that we won’t have time to get a quality replavement in before Thursday dead line. I’m hoping that Green can keep up his good start, maybe another Grealish in the making.

  2. Promising stuff so far – two goalkeepers and two defenders with one of each confirmed – would be nice to have an update on the forwards front. UTV
