Aston Villa ensured they completed their short Texan adventure with a 100% record over the two games when they came out 1-0 winners, thanks to a Joe Bennett goal.

In a largely unmemorable game, the atmosphere in the ground thanks to an in-stadium band was at least upbeat in warm conditions.

There were decent contributions from Villa full-backs Hutton and Bennett, and also keeper Jed Steer, but the game was ultimately a solid physical workout with few clear chances at either end.

For fans back home, the game perhaps was best remembered for some very trippy coverage at the start of the match with constant rewinds of coverage and of a Houston local marking the occasion by scoring a penalty into an empty net (they replayed this several times). The technological hitches didn’t stop there, Villa’s PR team helped out on co-commentary duties and unfortunately we couldn’t hear PR officer Sean Colfer doing co-commentary duties in the first-half due to a dodgy mic.

It was MOMS who alerted Houston, that they had a problem via the close-by Birmingham Mail journalist team in the ground. We regretted that one, when Villa’s head of PR Brian Doogan took over the mic for the second half! He did however inform listeners Fabian Delph had picked-up a knock, which doesn’t seem too serious though. UTV

  1. While it may not tell us overmuch about the season ahead I for one take comfort in the absence of comedy defending on display by the whole team so far.
