Aston Villa’s Confirmed Second Player Sale Helps Cover a Major Transfer Fee

Trezeguet Transfer Out Confirmed

Aston Villa today confirmed the long mooted departure of Trezeguet to Trabzonspor. Despite it being officially an undisclosed fee, as reported on MOMS last week, the final fee is believed to be in the region of five million euros (approximately £4.25m).

Added to the fee of £15m that Villa received from Newcastle United for Matt Targett, the club have essentially more than covered the £17.2m transfer fee of Philippe Coutinho in this window, which would be considered good business when directly comparing the players.

With Trezeguet in the final season of his Villa contract, in isolation, a fee of £4.25m, about half the amount they originally paid Kasimpasa back in 2019 for the Egyptian’s services, will be seen as satisfactory business.

Trezeguet’s Goal Worth

While Trezeguet was Mr Inconsistent at Villa and suffered a long-term injury at the backend of his time with the club, there were huge financial rewards directly linked to some of his goals.

His injury-time winner in the League Cup semi-final against Leicester City, got Villa into the Wembley final and increased their prize money and spin-off financial rewards, while his three goals in Villa’s final four games of the 2019/20 season were worth millions in TV rights money in securing Villa’s Premier League status.

Trezeguet made 56 Premier League appearances for Villa, scoring eight goals. His League Cup semi-final winner was his only additional goal in cup competitions for Villa.
