Aston Villa’s Season False Start and Midfield Dilemma

Aston Villa’s Midfield Dilemma

The concerns about Aston Villa’s preparation for the new season certainly came home to roost with their 3-2 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road. With disruptions to preseason friendly games due to Covid and key players away on international duty, plus the late incomings to replace Jack Grealish, Dean Smith’s men suffered from a lack of match sharpness and organisation.

Some supporters though think the issues lie deeper than that though and may compromise how the season pans out.

While Villa now boast more depth, certainly in terms of the quality in the squad, are their dilemmas to solve? Namely getting Villa’s midfield equation right.

Both Smith and Villa’s CEO Christian Purslow have reiterated there will be no more bodies in this transfer window and the amount of midfielders in the ranks, certainly doesn’t indicate anymore are incoming.

On the latest MOMS Podcast show, we looked at this midfield situation and Villa’s start to the season, as well as getting into issues further a field to Villa Park – like the potential new Financial Fair Play rules, Villa crypto, the George Best Airbnb and Messi’s incredible PSG shirt sales.

  1. villa need to get bassuma from brighton to have any hope of a top 6 spot. no signings means a relegation fight this season imo. which would be disgraceful.
