Aston Villa’s Trio of Inspiration Are like New Signings

When it comes to explaining why Villa put a poor December behind them to go on a winning run that has made them serious contenders for promotion, one factor that comes to mind is the impact of some new faces to the first XI this season.

In episode 38 of the MOMS Podcast we focused on a trio of players that have certainly added extra spark to Villa’s winning run. Three players that have either been injured or out of favour for most of the start of the season, but since 2018 started they have really come into their own.

Their names: Jack Grealish, Scott Hogan and Birkir Bjarnason

Grealish has shown evidence of levels of both talent and consistency that we’d all hoped that was behind the hype.

Hogan has finally got his confidence up and despite not being the most involved player in games in terms of touches is now finding the net on a regular basis.

While Bjarnason has finally found his position, which has given Steve Bruce an awkward situation with Glenn Whelan, Mile Jediank and potentially new recruit Axel Tuanzebe, who have all been left warming the bench.

The Episode 38 Notes

After beating Nottingham Forest and Barnsley, Aston Villa have won four games on the trot and are currently just three points off the automatic promotion spots.

My Old Man Said hosts David Michael and Dan Rodgers discuss the recent factors of Villa’s 100% 2018, including the emergence of Jack Grealish, the rise of Scott Hogan and the revelation of Birkir Bjarnason. Also, we question Aston Villa’s approach to cup competitions after their recent limp exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Peterborough.

There’s talk of Paul Lambert, Cyrille Regis, Black Mirror and various listener questions are answered (from Villa’s ideal XI to

lady’s football) and lots more.

Plus, there’s also the return of everyone’s favourite Yorkshire chairman in Twitter With Tony.

Enjoy!
