Christian Benteke Wins Award to Hopefully Kickstart Successful Month

After scoring five goals in the month of April, Christian Benteke has been named Barclays Player of the Month for April. The month also saw him score at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final setting up a chance of an FA Cup Winners medal later this month when Villa play Arsenal in the final.

With three league games to go, Benteke will no doubt add to his 14 goal tally for the season and hopefully fire Villa to Premier League safety.

Having been injured at the start of the season, Benteke cut a frustrated figure at the end of 2014 under ex-Villa boss Paul Lambert, as he was offered little service to do his job.

Since Tim Sherwood came in though and actively tailored Villa’s play to maximise the threat of big Belgian, he’s flourished, scoring 11 goals in his last nine games.

The lynchpin of the Sherwood revolution, it would be with heavy hearts that Villa fans would see him leave in the summer (winning the FA Cup would soften the blow), but that is far from a forgone conclusion at the moment with the Belgian striker seemingly happy with his manager and his teammates.

Winning the FA Cup would certainly help retain his services with it setting up another Wembley date in August against Chelsea in the Charity Shield and also serving up European football.

The Manager of the Month Award for April went to Nigel Pearson, a well-deserved win for transforming Leicester City’s fortunes.

Congrats to Christian. UTV

  1. If he won’t sign a new contract in the summer, we surely have to sell him, if we try and do it next year, he’ll only have 12 months on his contract and will be lucky to get 10-12 million compared to 30+ this summer.
