Terry’s Future
At last week’s Aston Villa Supporter Trust (AVST) meeting attended by Villa CEO Keith Wyness and Director of Football Steve Round, the question of John Terry’s future came up during a questions and answers session.
Terry turns 38 in December, but bar a two-month absence due to injury, the former England captain has had a solid season for Villa, so far.
When asked if Terry has expressed any interest in staying and playing on, Steve Round suggested that the ex-Chelsea man is very keen to extend his time at Villa Park.
“John Terry has expressed interest and wants to stay on and play,” said Round, to the gathered supporters.
Of course, like many recruitment decisions, much will be decided on what division Villa find themselves in next season.
“If promoted, he will most likely be with us – if not, then will have to see where we are,” said Round.
Automatic?
While Villa’s recent back-to-back losses have dented their automatic promotion ambitions, leaving them in fourth place, seven points off second place having played an extra game, Cardiff City’s fixture list suggest the race isn’t completely over yet.
At the AVST AGM, Wyness also reaffirmed that he doesn’t accept that Villa’s destiny this season is necessarily the play-offs. A sentiment echoed by Round.
If it is to be the play-offs, then the only way Terry stays at Villa is to be walking up the Wembley steps in May, holding the Championship play-off trophy aloft above his head.
