Dean Smith Confirms Improved Injury Situation, With Only Two Concerns

Aston Villa Injury List Pre-Everton

Despite the elephant in the room of the Argentine pair of Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia only returning to the UK on the day of the Everton game, Dean Smith had better news to relay in terms of Aston Villa’s current injury list.

While Trezeguet remains an long-term absence, the Villa Head Coach confirmed only a couple of Villa youngsters who have made the match day squad in recent games were on the injury list.

“Carney Chukwuemeka won’t make the team,” confirmed Smith. “He’s not trained all week, nor has Jaden Philogene-Bidace. They’re the only two who are out.”

With a later kick-off time providing enough time for a briefing session, the Argentine players returning from their quarantine in Croatia, will potentially feature according to Smith.

He stated that both were in “a good place physically”.

The players have been monitored by Villa’s performance department while they have been in Croatia.

“We’re expecting them to join us tomorrow morning,” added Smith. “I’ll assess it then and see whether they’re involved or not.”

Argentine Expectations

Realistically, you’d expect Martinez to play considering his role as goalkeeper. He’ll know the drill.

If fit enough, Buendia, due to the training build-up of the past week and the tactical planning he has missed, will more than likely start from the bench.

England’s Most Played League Fixture

I’ll be the 207th time the clubs have met in the league, with the fixture remaining as the most-played league fixture in English football. All the matches have taken place in top-flight fixture.

Its position as the most-played fixture was under threat, with the event of Villa’s recent three seasons in the Championship. Another season, and Arsenal vs Manchester United and Everton vs Liverpool would have caught it up. Both of those fixtures currently remain two games behind.

In all competitions, Villa and Everton are neck-and-neck across 224 games, with 82 wins each and 60 draws.

Will this weekend’s match see a team take the lead?
