EFL Clubs Decide to Change Summer Transfer Deadline

Transfer Sanity

EFL clubs today clearly indicated their support to close the summer transfer window earlier to follow the lead of Premier League club’s recent vote.

The decision was taken at a meeting of all 72 Clubs, with a formal vote to come in February next year ahead of any changes being implemented for the start of the 2018 Summer window.

While hopefully Aston Villa won’t be under the jurisdiction of EFL regulation next season, it will bring the Championship and the lower divisions in line with the Premier League’s plan to close the window at 5pm on the Thursday, before the first game of the season.

The EFL have proposed a slight change from the Premier League adjustment, whereby a shorter window for permanent transfers would be introduced, but Clubs could continue to sign players on loan until the traditional end of the window on 31 August.

Clubs overwhelmingly supported the approach and will are expected to rubber stamp it in the formal vote early next year.

Certainly MOMS welcomes the concept of English teams getting their squads in order before the actual season starts, as the summer transfer deadline being after the season begins has always been a major distraction.

Adding the hype of deadline day to the eve of the new season will also help build excitement for the season kicking off.

So, it’s a win-win decision.

  1. Doesn`t really matter what time it opens or closes, on current form Villa would still make a pigs ear of it
