Ex-Villa Striker Return on the Cards if Aston Villa Stay in Championship

‘Bowery has scored more league goals this season than Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan, Ross McCormack, Keinan Davis and Gabby Agbonlahor, combined’

Forgotten Man

“If Bowery scores, we riot”, used to be a popular tweet in the times when Paul Lambert was Aston Villa boss, well, at least from the MOMS Twitter account.

The player that Lambert plucked from Chesterfield, swapping him for a programme, a bag of chips and half an IPA, managed to leave Villa after 20-odd appearances, as one of the rare Villa strikers who matched the achievement of Villa legend Bosko Balaban.

Like the Croatian forward, Bowery failed to score a single goal in a Villa shirt.

Coming to Villa with a one-in-eight strike rate at Chesterfield, Villa supporters hopes weren’t that great in the first place, but we always wished him the best when he got on the pitch.

In the end, nobody batted an eyelid when he left for Rotherham United.

Renaissance Man

Recently though, Bowery has had an upturn in fortune when it comes to finding his shooting boots. MOMS is pleased to report, the striker is experiencing the form of his career at current club, Crewe.

The former Villa man, now 26-years-old, has scored eight goals from his last nine appearances. He’s NEVER experienced such a purple patch.

If Keinan Davis can be linked to Arsenal and Manchester United, after playing 90 minutes or so for Villa, then Rhodes could be up for a late call into the England squad for the World Cup in Russia…especially when you consider some of the players that make it into the national squad nowadays.

Journey Man

Since leaving Villa, Bowery has been a bit of a lower league journey man. After leaving Villa for Rotherham United, the striker then signed for Oxford United, before ending up at Leyton Orient. After a loan period at Crewe in 2017, he signed a two-year deal with the club at the end of last season, and in recent weeks, has finally found his groove for them.

The striker is now in double figures for the season with 12, although most of them have come in his last nine games.

Villa Man

The fact that Bowery has scored more league goals this season than Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan, Ross McCormack, Keinan Davis and Gabby Agbonlahor, combined, has seemingly alerted the current Villa board to the possibly of reintroducing him to the Villa Park faithful, next season.

Bowery used to play for Villa in the Premier League without much success, but if Villa stay rooted in the Championship, it maybe his level.

“Bosko Balaban will never score for Aston Villa, but maybe it’s not too late for Jordan,” Villa Football Director, Steve Round, was overheard telling Prince William and John Carew, after the recent Cardiff City game.

Certainly Crewe assistant manager Kenny Lunt has publicly voiced his concerns in a recent interview about potentially losing the player.

“Every time we have faced a team this season their manager has usually mentioned him and what a good player he is for the team,” said Lunt.

“He brings a lot more to the team but every striker wants to score goals. Who knows who could be watching him or is interested in him? If he had been hitting the back of the net at the start of the season then he would have been on for 20 goals plus.”

Did Tony Xia get the Recon Group to pay for the Bodymoor Heath naming rights to buy Bowery in the summer?

The plot thickens…
