Five Reasons to be Cheerful…

1.Three on the Trot

After that shonky month of December comes just the topic, three straight league wins, including a couple of away games. While similiar in its methodic nature to the win against Boro, compared to our last trip to the City Ground, it showcased an improvement of this team from last season in the Championship.

With a home game vs Barnsley and a trip to Sheffield United to come, a couple of more wins there will mean an 100% league record in January, which will set up games against a couple of local bottom three teams perfectly.

2. Two on the Trot

Once he was like a ghost difficult to spot on a football pitch while wearing Aston Villa colours, now he’s scored the opening goal in each of Villa’s last two games. Shogun Hogan is finally getting into the groove of playing striker for Villa.

There’s certainly an interesting few weeks ahead to see if the ex-Brentford man can become the goalscorer Villa desperately need to fire-up their promotion hopes.

The signs are good though, and 2018 so far, would have certainly have helped his confidence.

3. JT Returns

MOMS is officially announcing NOW is the business end of the season, so it’s good that captain John Terry is back in town leading the line for it. Maybe it’s harsh timing for Tommy Elphick, who had shown his worth in recent weeks, but that Chester and Terry partnership looks darn good.

Lead us to the holy land, Mr Terry.

4. Cup-Tied

Supporters who like to trot out that BS excuse/cliche of “at least we can concentrate on the league now” got their chance to say it one more time, after Villa’s poor result against the Posh in the FA Cup.

We’re at Villa Park. Supporters have paid money. We’re Aston Villa. We should be making a better fist of winning a game and fielding a team to do just that.

Now we’ll never get to see John Terry forced to play Chelsea (if we had drawn them in a later round).

I’ve seen Villa win all the main trophies in my time on this planet…apart from the FA Cup.

Call me selfish. I want to win it. It’s called ambition.

5. Lambo’s Found Employment

There’s certain Villa fans out there who thought Paul Lambert was a good manager and that he was sold down the river by Randy Lerner.

There are those in the media who thought Paul Lambert was more important to Wolves than the super agent Jorge Mendes.

To those people, you’ll be happy to know that Lambert is once again a Premier League boss.

Well, at least for the time being…until Stoke get relegated.

  1. Just like to say how sad to hear of Cyrillic Regis’s passing. He will be sadly missed by hi family, friends, football as a whole and the many people who he inspired. A great player and an even better man. RIP

  2. I stand to be corrected no doubt I will be told if I’m wrong, but the Snodgrass debacle continues, so my opinion is why doesn’t the player himself come out and say that he is staying at Villa and doesn’t want to return or play for West Ham as far as I can see that would end it, there’s no point in perusing a player that doesn’t want to play for you, I see this morning that it seems likely he will stay until the end of the season, but as I see it and to shut certain people up why doesn’t he just say so, after all he left on bad terms.

  3. the most damning indictment of lamberk was how we slowly disolved in his last season over 2 months
and sherwood has us winning again within 2 games and on to a cup final and survival
im not totally blaming lambert but i feel genuine pity for stoke,,,,

you can see it now after the first match.defeat,,,

errrrr,,,,, i thought we were excellent,,,,,,

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  4. Lambert was not sold down river by Lerner it was his 2 deputies who were prepared to relegate club for what ever he’d done to offend them ! But even after they were sacked the damage lingered on
