Good News on the Injury Front for Villa Going Into the Liverpool Clash

Jack Grealish Injury Update

After earlier scares in the press suggesting Jack Grealish could be out injured for up to four weeks were squashed today, after Dean Smith announced that the Villa captain was back in training.

“He’s still a little bit sore, but he believes he’s in contention to start, and he wants to,” said Smith, at his pre-Liverpool press conference.

Smith might have been tempted to give Grealish a game off, but the magnitude of the Liverpool clash will mean Grealish won’t want to miss out. Also, the nature of the injury means, that it shouldn’t impede the player too much.

“When the contract injuries on soft tissue you’re going to get a small bleed in there, which he’s got,” added Smith. “It’s not going to do too much harm by him going out there. Once adrenaline kicks in you feel very little anyway.”

It seems supporters can expect Grealish in the first XI against Liverpool, as Smith went on to explain it’s a simple decision.

“The thing for me is to make a decision on whether or not, he’s fit enough to start, as we’re up against the current Champions of Europe. You need all 11 players to be physically right to go and produce on the day.

“My only call is whether he can go can and produce the standards that we expect of him.”

Other Injuries

In other news, it was confirmed that Kienan Davies who went off in the midweek cup game against Wolves, could actually be out for up to four weeks with his hamstring injury.

While, it’s disappointing timing for Davies, as he was knocking on the door in terms of providing increasingly serious competition for Wesley, at least there’s an international break that takes place within his injury period.

Smith also stated that Jota will return to training next Monday, just in time for the busy winter period ahead.
