With just one win in their last 10 Premier League games, Steven Gerrard’s men will know the importance of their Friday night match with Southampton. A fixture that will also see Villa Park pay its respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II, before and during the game.
There had been concerns that Villa maybe struggling in the goalkeeper department with all their first three keeper choices missing training yesterday, but Steven Gerrard seemed bullish that Emi Martinez will pull through an illness.
Ollie Watkins seems to be a bigger concern, also suffering from the start of the week from an illness. After an impressive performance against Manchester City, Villa will certainly be hoping he will be ok to lead the line against the Saints.
Polish international pair Matty Cash and Jan Bednarek will both miss out, with Cash nursing a hamstring injury and Bednarek ineligible to face Southampton, as per his loan.
