Jack Grealish new contract imminent?

News reports out of Irish press suggest that Jack Grealish’s withdrawal from the Irish Under-21 squad is because he wants to  take the opportunity to sort out his future and bring a conclusion to his current contract negotiations with Aston Villa.

Villa also have a friendly scheduled behind close doors this week during the international break, so it’s likely he’s planned to feature in that too.

Ireland Under-21 manager Noel King happy with the decision, despite the fact England Under-21 boss and former Villa captain Gareth Southgate has been in constant contact with Grealish, feeling him out for a switch to the England set-up.

“I accept Jack’s reasons for withdrawing and understand it,” said Kingsemed to Irish press. “I have no issue with it and just see this as an opportunity for other players to come in and show what they can do.”

The International break may not bring a closure to Fabian Delph’s new contract, with him being away with the England camp, but Villa will not doubt be keen to tie up Grealish and maybe Vlaar during the break.

  1. Good news about Grealish signing. Main concern is Delph and Vlaar seems to have gone really quiet.
Delph has two games in an England shirt and seems he’s been tapped up already. Obviously counts for nowt being paid for nearly two season while out with serious injuries. Come on guys “big fish little pond” etc just remind yourselves what happened to Young and Downing they never made that step up did they.
