Just when Steve Bruce came across a formation to potentially get the most out of the enigmatic Jack Grealish, disaster seemingly struck for the player, after he went off injured in Villa’s last friendly, the 0-0 draw with Watford.
While Grealish looked to be in some pain, he managed to walk off the pitch and at one point looked like he was going to continue in the match.
Obviously, something was not right though, as it was announced that Grealish had to go to the hospital for tests.
Tonight, his father Kevin, posted a message on his behalf via Facebook, with the result of the tests…
It’s bad news for Jack, who had to have an operation to deal with a bleeding kidney and according to the player, it’s projected he could be out for between two and three months.
As the player stated, in the Facebook post above:
“Absolutely devastated…got a nasty elbow to the stomach in yesterday’s game which caused a bleed in my kidney.
“Had a mini op early this morning and will now be out for at least 2-3 months.
“Gutted as season was about to start next week but will be doing everything to come back fitter and stronger. Upthevilla.”
This will no doubt be frustrating for the player, who was facing a big season ahead, with his manager, who last season seemed unsure about the player, looking like he was going to give him a pivotal role in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Now, it’s up to perhaps Conor Hourihane to step up to fill the void, if the Villa boss pursues the formation.
As for Grealish, this upset should seriously sharpen his mind and focus for his return, as he’ll potentially still have a big part to play in Villa’s promotion mission.
We wish Jack all the best for a speedy recovery and hope this will be just a blip in a great season for him.
