John Terry Suffers Injury Setback for Aston Villa

JT Doubt

After John Terry got his first 90 minutes under his belt against Peterborough following a long lay-off, comes the disappointing news that he is now doubtful for the away trip to Nottingham Forest.

“Unfortunately John Terry rolled his ankle on Wednesday and he’s a doubt,” said Steve Bruce, at the pre-Forest press conference.

“He’s just got over his injury and unfortunately he’s rolled his ankle slightly and we’ll see how he is.” Added Bruce.

The news reaffirms the importance of keeping the in-form Tommy Elphick at the club, after rumours this week suggested that Millwall were interested in taking the centre-back on loan.

With Terry 37-years-old and taking into account his recent injury issues, Elphick is a legitimate centre-back choice when you compare his recent performances to those of Chris Samba and Mile Jedinak.

It’s unlikely Terry can play three times in a week, so rotation with Elphick could the key to his longevity and fitness this season, and in turn, Villa’s promotion push.

Other Injury News

Mile Jedinak is another doubt along with Terry. Hopefully, the Australian captain will pull through, as most fans would prefer him anchoring the midfield than the alternatives.

Andre Green was given an hour in the Villa U23’s this week, after his return to Villa duty in the FA Cup against Peterborough.

Bruce decided he needed more game time after the Posh game before being put back in the front line.

“Andre, we decided to get another hour under his belt having been out for so long. We thought it’d be good for him.

“We played him last night, and he’s got through it, which is good.”

Better news comes with Scott Hogan front, after he was announced fit, after he missed the FA Cup game with a knock.

“Scott Hogan is fine. He’s trained all week,” declared Bruce.

  1. Love the podcasts but articles are desperate/lazy.
We know…we have yt’d the press conference

    • The reason the club have press conferences is to issue news that the media helps then spread to all supporters. Most Villa supporters don’t sit around watching the press conferences. While MOMS doesn’t cover all Villa news/rumours for the sake of it, there’s nothing wrong with putting out core news stories like injuries and having an opinion on it. In fact, I’m pretty selective what goes on the site. If making sure that MOMS readers know Terry is injured (and reason why the club should keep Elphick), Hogan is fit and Green is being introduced back slowly is ‘desperate/lazy’, then maybe it’s best I’m more selective and write just one article a month. To be honest, it’s a ‘lazy’ comment you make, as MOST the articles tend to be opinion/thought/considered pieces that the podcast derives from.
