Loan Move the First of Several Villa Players to Leave

Cameron Archer Loan Moves Middlesbrough

Earlier this week, Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer sealed a loan move to Middlesbrough until the end of the season, which is thought to be the first of several of the current squad moving out.

With Villa going out of the League Cup early, opportunities for Archer have proven hard to come by, with the striker only registering 44 minutes in his six league substitute appearances. It is hoped by linking up with Michael Carrick’s side (ex-Villa coach Aaron Danks is also a first team coach at Boro), the 21-year-old striker will recapture the form in the Championship that saw him score seven goals in 20 appearances on loan for Preston North End.

French Duo to Exit

Following Archer’s exit, it is also expected that both Freddie Gilbert and Morgan Sanson will also leave the club during the January window.

For Guilbert, he’s faced a frustrated time frozen out from the first team squad after failing to agree a move away in the summer. This seems to have led to him finding new representation to help him get a move this January.

The player’s own social media, with it’s recent emoji tweet, hinted that he was close to getting his sought after move away.

Meanwhile, it’s no secret within the club that Sanson is desperate for a move out, after failing to impress three successive Villa Head Coaches during his two-year spell at the club.

The midfielder’s £14m signing under Dean Smith has been one of the poorest pieces of business by the club since they were promoted. Sanson was slated to upgrade Villa’s midfield, but his failure has ultimately seen Villa stand still in terms of progress on the field.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Sanson has rejected approaches by both Auxerre and Strasbourg, indicating that his agent is very much working on a move back to France for the midfielder.

Moreno Ramifications

With reports suggesting that Villa’s interest is firming in Real Betis’s 29-year-old left-back Álex Moreno, question marks will be raised over the existing loan deal for Ludwig Augustinsson with Sevilla. Would it be terminated, if Moreno does sign? Augustinsson is expected to start against Stevenage in the FA Cup though.
