My Old Man Said Nominated for Award. Villa’s First Preseason Glory?!

My Old Man Said has made the final five nominations for the ‘Best New Football Blog of the Year’ category at The Football Blog Awards 2012. The winner will be announced this Saturday 14th July 2012 (19.00 to 22.30) in an Awards Ceremony that takes place at the Masonic Hall, Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The nominees were decided by a two-month long public vote with 40 different websites entering the ‘Best New’ category.

One of the favourites to win, www.myoldmansaid.com  has redefined the use of the football blog, using it to also rally supporters into constructive action that has in turn gone on to receive national press coverage.

Such action has included raising awareness of Villa captain’s Stiliyan Petrov’s fight against acute leukaemia and organising a tribute at Villa Park for Fabrice Muamba, to voicing supporter’s feelings to their club (and modern day football) in a constructive and as the Guardian called it ‘unprecedented’ manner.

Winning the award would be some recognition for last season’s hard work.

MOMS can get in two MOMS followers to the awards for free on VIP status (normally £15 each), which includes a glass of champers on arrival and decent seats. Drop me an email on contact@myoldmansaid.com , if you’re available and interested.

The awards location of Stockport has added Villa flavour with it also being the new workplace of European Cup-winning legend Peter Withe, who is now manager of Stockport FC. In an ideal world, if Peter was in the area on Saturday evening, he’d pop in to present the award, if we won!

Good luck to all the other sites in the ‘New Blog’ category and lets hope it’s a great night whoever wins.
