More Injury Woe for Aston Villa Ahead of Foxes Clash

Steven Gerrard’s Injury Round-up

Leon Bailey is expected to be out for several weeks with a return unlikely before the new year, after the player came off in the first half in the mid-week clash against Manchester City.

“Unfortunately, Leon Bailey has had a scan and that’s confirmed that it’s a muscle injury in that quad area,” confirmed Steven Gerrard, in his pre-Leicester City match press conference.

“It’s going to be quite a long one,” added Villa’s Head Coach. “He’ll be missing for a number of weeks.”

As with Bertrand Traoré, there’s no public return date, but it seems both are now guaranteed to miss the Christmas period.

“It’s difficult to put a date on that right now, but we won’t see him before Christmas,” said Gerrard.

Villa will hope that Trezeguet will get back to match fitness this month to fill in, as he begins his comeback in earnest with an U-23 game outing.

In terms of the other injury concerns ahead of the Leicester City game, the only other doubt seems to be Danny Ings, who is touch and go, right up to 24 hours before the game.

“Danny Ings is one that we’re working closely with and we’ll give him every chance before making a decision on him,” said, Gerrard.

Gerrard will take encouragement from how his Villa team took the fight to Manchester City in the second half, earlier in the week, and it’s likely that Ashley Young will start replacing Bailey, whom he came on as a substitute for on Wednesday night.
