Aston Villa’s Young Lions
If there’s one big positive of Villa’s season so far, it’s the exciting new crop of young players that have come to the fore after being given a chance in the Villa first team.
While the Villa boss Steve Bruce has used his old boy network to get in older heads during the summer transfer window, getting in the likes of John Terry, Glenn Whelan, Ahmed Elmohamady and Robert Snodgrass, he’s also blooded players from the Villa youth team and got in the dynamic presence of Spurs loanee Josh Onomah.
Certainly, so far, it’s the young lions have impressed the most during the opening games of the season. From Keinan Davis immense debut start against Norwich to the impressive debuts of various academy players in the League Cup.

Doyle-Hayes Contract
On the subject of Doyle-Hayes, the 18-year-old signed a new three-year contract with Villa today. The young midfielder made his senior debut in the 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic in the League Cup.
“I’ve got to get my head down, keep learning and working hard on developing my game. I want to try and play as many games as I can,” said Doyle-Hayes on the club’s website.

Youth are the future & Bruce has put together a squad that can support the youth & dare I say it ,win matches !
A lot talk of managers losing the dressing room , but recently I’ve heard comments from within the club that in fact it was the dressing room that had lost it’s way . Losing matches was no longer a big deal & the attitude was that the players no longer cared if they lost as there was always another game to try & win . That’s not saying the players did not care , but rather that playing for Villa had become a chore . & is why in the past heads went down too quickly if the team conceeded . But that’s changed with the arrival of a few “older heads” including Terry who can do what the manager can’t do which is to rally the team when heads go down . But then there’s also the exuberence of youth which Bruce can fall back on when heads go down or legs become leaden .
But the youth are much more as it would seem we now virtually have 2 teams . One for the Cups & one for the league with the opportunity to switch player between the 2 .
But can we really win a Cup or 2 & promotion ? time will tell
And what of next season could the youth be ready for the prem if we do get promotion ?
