Steve Bruce Says Villa Match Winner Needs to Work on Fitness

‘McPorkmack’

On the latest MOMS Episode (14) that came out on the morning of the Burton game, a listener jokingly referred to Villa striker Ross McCormack as ‘McPorkmack’ when asking a question. While MOMS had seen his fitness questioned on social media, was it really that apparent?

Going back to episode three of the MOMS podcast it opened with an audio clip of former Villa boss Alex McLeish discussing McCormack’s “puppy fat” issue during his time at Rangers, suggesting that it has been an on-going concern throughout his career.

McCormack popped up with the match-winner against Burton today to seal a laboured 2-1 victory and interestingly Villa boss Steve Bruce directly addressed McCormack’s fitness.

“For me he’s got a lot of work to do,” said Bruce in a post-match interview on WM Radio. “You know his fitness levels could be better, he knows that.”

“He’s had a tough time”, continued Bruce. “Lets hope now that little bit of confidence thing that he’s got the winner, he can go on. It was good to see he got the winning goal and that will help him.”

Bunn vs Gollini vs January Window

Another topic on the latest episode of the show was Bunn vs Gollini, and funnily enough, Bruce also addressed that in his post-match chat with WM Radio when discussing Bunn’s last-gasp save that saved the three points for Villa.

“He’s given us that bit of experience when it was needed,” said Bruce of Bunn. “The big boy Pier [Gollini], he’s come for a lot of money and it’s difficult, there’s not many 21-year-olds playing week-in and week-out, so Bunny’s experience has proved vital and he’s produced a good save for us today.”

New Episode

As well as the ‘McPorkmack’ scenario and how Gollini relates to the January transfer window, the latest MOMS Podcast show discussed the January window at large, the hype of Hepburn-Murphy, Ayew vs Grealish, midfield concerns, the need for decent team performances and answers a bunch of listener questions, including the hypothetical question of having Fabian Delph back!
