Steven Gerrard Provides Welcome and Surprising Ezri Konsa Update

Ezri Konsa Injury Update

Going back to the end of last season and the general consensus was Aston Villa wouldn’t be seeing Ezri Konsa play until a good few weeks into the 2022/23 campaign. The incoming transfer of Diego Carlos was felt partly to cover his absence too, on top of providing increased competition at centre-back.

After the 1-0 win over Leeds United in Brisbane during Villa’s preseason Australian tour, Steven Gerrard confirmed that Konsa was actually now in contention to play against Brisbane Roar later this week.

“The rehab’s done,” confirmed Gerrard. “He trained fully with the team yesterday (Saturday) for the first time. He’ll continue to train and prepare and he’ll be available for selection against Brisbane Roar in the middle of the week.”

Konsa is back six to eight weeks ahead of schedule, after being out since the knee injury he picked up in May.

Squad Fitness Update Ahead of Brisbane Roar Clash

In the run up to the final Queensland Champions Cup clash against the Brisbane Roar, the only doubt in the Villa squad is Jaden Philogene-Bidace, who has missed training the past couple of days.

Gerrard is expected to give several of Villa’s younger players a run out in a game, where a draw will clinch the pre-season trophy, before the team move onto the west coast to take on Manchester United in Perth.
