Cup Final Referee

The match officials to take charge of Aston Villa’s upcoming Carabao Cup Final clash with Manchester City have been confirmed, with Lee Mason to take up refereeing duties at Wembley Stadium on March 1st.

It will be the third Villa game in the tournament this season that Mason has officiated, having already reffed both the 2-1 win over Wolves and the 5-0 quarter-final win over Liverpool.

Do we need to mention that Mason is actually from Greater Manchester (Bolton)? If he could give Villa a penalty or send off a City player in the first 10 minutes, to prove he’s not bias, that would be very much appreciated.

Mason will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Harry Lennard, with David Coote named the fourth official in the showpiece event on Sunday 1 March.

This will be Mason’s biggest game at Wembley as a referee, having twice refereed at Wembley Stadium in Finals, the first coming between Swansea City and Barnsley in 2006, before taking charge of the 2013/14 Championship Play-Off Final between Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.

As per the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be in operation for the Final.

The VAR official has also been confirmed as Mike Dean, with Neil Davies the Assistant VAR official.

Referee: Lee Mason
Assistant Referees: Ian Hussin and Harry Lennard
Fourth Official: David Coote
VAR: Mike Dean
AVAR: Neil Davies
