#69 The Games That Demonstrated Aston Villa’s New Found Will to Win for the Play-offs

Again, MOMS is catching up on some episode notes for recent podcast episodes and here’s an episode that highlighted this Aston Villa team’s will to win, as demonstrated in both their away trips to Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday.

If Villa are successful in their play-off campaign, these back-to-back trips to the South Yorkshire will be remembered for defining our mentality in our late promotion quest.

First there was the injury-time drama at Hillsborough. When at 1-1, Villa scored two injury-time goals to sink Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday. Villa have been no stranger to late shows throughout the season, with their clawing back a draw from being 3-0 down with eight minutes to go against Sheffield United at Villa Park, perhaps being the shining example.

Days after the late comeback win against Wednesday, Villa then came back with 10-men from 1-0 down against Rotherham, scoring a fine team goal in the process to win it. This proved there is a special resolve in the team and also the ability and quality in the team to make up for being a man down at this level. Again against Leeds United at Elland Road, Villa proved their resilience seeing out the game despite being away from home and playing out the final 20 minutes with 10-men.

Beyond Villa’s attacking threat, there’s plenty of evidence now of Villa’s mental and new found defensive strength, that clearly makes them the team that no-one will want to play in the play-offs.

Have the stars finally aligned for the Villa boys?

Episode 69 Notes

7Up Comeback Kings Aston Villa Show Credentials

It seems Aston Villa refuse to give up their winning run, as it extended to seven games with two remarkable comebacks, both with very different narratives. David, Chris and Dan, discuss the injury-time miracle versus Sheffield Wednesday and the 10-men New York stadium resurrection against Rotherham. The P-word, surely can be said out aloud now without fear?

The trio also cast their eye on FA Cup semi-final ticket prices, pundit pickles, clickbait tennis and once again flick on the switch to the Scott Hogan Touch Count Meter.

Enjoy!
