Lerner Limbo is Over as Tony Xia and Recon Officially Announced as Villa Owners

Lerner Limbo Ends

After many weeks of waiting for the takeover of Aston Villa by Tony Xia and his Recon group to be resolved, the club today finally announced the completion of the process.

Due to the club’s relegation and the oversea’s nature of the buy out, there were added complications for the ‘fit and proper’ tests, that extended the timing of Xia’s takeover.

Xia had announced on social media yesterday that he had passed the ‘fit and proper’ test and the Football League finally gave him the thumbs-up in the last 24 hours.

Press Conference News

The club will have a press conference with both Roberto Di Matteo and Tony Xia at 11am tomorrow to publicly lay down the immediate plans and direction for the club.

The Aston Villa, as the club’s website indicated, will be properly announced later this week. Although, amongst the board, Keith Wyness is expected to be CEO and Christopher Samuelson is expected to be the Vice Chairman.

After Villa’s first relegation in 29 years, the club’s first since the naming of the Premier League, now is not the time for hype, but more a chance to get down to the serious business of restoring this club back to where it should belong.

At least the Lerner Limbo is finally over.

  1. Absolutely Colin, without the hard work of Steve Hollis we would be looking at a difficult season in the championship and possibly falling further down the league’s. With Lerner still the leader of a rudderless shop I think we could have sunk to depths that our great club shouldn’t sink too. So thank you Mr Hollis and even though your stay in B6 was brief it means an awful lot too a great many people what you have some and as long as our club is around you won’t be forgotten.

  3. As a supporter of some 78 years, I feel much happier now. I am sure everyone at Aston Villa would like to welcome our new chairman and to thank him for the chance of a new future.
I only wish that a position on the Board could have been found for Mr. Hollis. I think he has given the club admirable service, for which we owe him our gratitude.
