Ayew Out

By the look of Tony Xia’s latest equation it looks like Swansea City are close to taking Jordan Ayew off Villa’s hands for a fee of around £5m plus left-back Neil Taylor in a part-exchange transfer. That’s the ‘(95%-(95%+X)’ part of the equation.

After Cissokho left for Greece, Taylor could provide competition for Jordan Amavi at left-back and it’ll be interesting to see if he actually replaces him at any point in the season, considering some of Amavi’s defensive lapses.

Earlier Swansea winger Modou Barrow was meant to be part of the deal, but it looks like the money might prove to be more useful and potentially reinvested in the pursuit of a striker.

Rhodes

Despite Bruce trying to pour cold water on interest in Middlesbrough’s jordan Rhodes, the money from the Ayew deal could potentially see Villa up their bid from £6m for the striker, but they will hesitate to get too close to £10m.

Bruce said: ‘We made a bid for him and we went as far as we could. Nothing has changed, Whether that changes in the next 24 hours I’m not so sure.’

Tshibola Out

With Villa now well stocked for midfielders with the three new signings in the window, Aaron Tshibola is the first existing midfielder to move on with a loan to Nottingham Forest agreed to the end of the season.

The £5m man who has only shown occasional sparks of his talent in the Villa midfield, when the team needed him to take more responsibility. There have been question marks over his attitude and maturity, so maybe a loan period away will help get him on the right track.

While the likes of Gollini and other Villa players loans already out on loan in summer will likely never play for Villa again, Tshibola may have a chance of a reprieve.

At the moment though, alongside Gollini, McCormack and Elphick, he’s just additional evidence to the failure of the new Villa regimes first attempt at turning the club around.

Mystery Man

Judging by the +95% there’s a player currently unaccounted for by the press that is close to joining.

“We’ve got one on the go which is close, which hasn’t been mentioned, so we must be doing something okay,” said Bruce about the possible incoming player.

“It’s the first time we’ve been able to keep our gobs shut for a long time, so I’m delighted about that! That’s made it a bit easier.”

The plot thickens…

Akpom Seagull

Arsenal’s young striker Chuba Akpom, who was linked earlier in the window to Villa, is now set to join Brighton.

Youth Loans

Another reason why Villa passed on Swansea winger Modou Barrow is perhaps Bruce’s new found faith in youngster Andre Green after impressing against Preston. Green it seems will stay around the first team squad, although Bruce hasn’t totally ruled out other youth team players getting a loan away to give them experience.

“We have a few out there on loan already so I don’t think there will be much,” said Bruce, at the pre-Brentford press conference.

  1. All looks like good business. Ayew a luxury we can do without. Hoping the mystery man a CB. Rhodes would be just about OK but not if Grealish part of the deal.
