Two Transfers That Will Now Influence Aston Villa’s Business

Donny Grealish Clue

A couple of recent transfer moves over the weekend now point to where Villa’s transfer window will be heading.

First of all, Manchester United agreeing £40m fee for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek further supports MOMS continued view that Jack Grealish will remain a Villa player come the end of the transfer window.

The Netherlands international, 23, and has been watched by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on several occasions and a five-year deal looks like it’ll be wrapped up this week.

Again, like Bruno Fernandes before him, the transfer shows what value is available in Europe, compared to the unrealistic £80m Grealish figure that has been floated about. For half the price, you’re getting a younger player who was a leading light in Ajax’s Champions League semi-final run in 2019.

You’d be very surprised if United were activity pursuing Grealish once they complete on van de Beek, considering the players they have in Grealish’s potential positions.

Announce Toney

Brentford have finally confirmed the transfer of Peterborough striker Ivan Toney, with the 24-year-old signing a five-year contract with the Bees.

The prolific League One Posh striker was Brentford’s preferred replacement for Ollie Watkins, who is now expected to leave, with Villa the favourites to be his final destination.

It is thought the initial delays in the Toney transfer has contributed to delaying the sale of Watkins, with Brentford wanting to lockdown a replacement first before letting Watkins go.

  1. As a villa fan for over 60 years ,I cant thank the owners enough for trying to turn us into a really succesful club.Im looking forward to the coming season and I think we’re going to do well. The buys so far have been excellent and the appointments in management and advisor have been made in my view are exceptional. Three or at least another 2 signings of the players we’ve been chasing will make us TTT ( a top ten team) Keep it up Deano —‐ Claret and Blue ,through and through —

  2. well @ long last a signing from Forest but not the one fans were shouting for as Matty Cash has been announced

  3. What happened to Joe Lolley from forest. Big Villa Fan. A real talent. Yes I think Watkins is worth pushing the boat out for. Surely we can’t have another striker disaster? But remember his scoring rate at Brentford is nearly half that of Hogan’s there!!!! Scary eh. Its our final ball and total lack of awareness of our strikers to get in goalscoring positions that’s our problem. I think Shakespeare will be our best investment. Virtually all our signings last season got worse as the season progressed. I think like in the last few games we will see that change. A few will surprise everyone!

  4. Looking now from what we read that we are not prepared to pay more than 18m for Watkins and we are likely to loose him, on that basis we will also loose Benrahma all of this beggars belief, we are desperate for a decent striker if we start the new season with nothing up front again we will be heading for another relegation battle, for the sake of 7 m it’s a no brainer what are the club thinking about, I’m just hoping that this is just tactics and journo talk because we can’t afford to loose Watkins We are completely lightweight up front no fire power at all.

  5. Great to see Jack finally called to the England squad, with only 5 midfielders hopefully he will get a cap. Watkins is a must as we are woefully short up front with Wesley and Samatta not even hitting double figures between them. Matty Cash would be an excellent buy and provide options on the right, just hope Wolves don’t get involved after loosing Docherty to Spurs. Then the longest Villa transfer saga, bring in Benrahma to take the pressure off Jack and as he is already used to playing with Watkins, would give us an understanding from kick off. Still need a keeper tho and I would still be interested in Butland to work with Heaton and develop him for the future. Finally, get Rishica at all costs and then dreams would come true….

  6. I think these days we have previous knowledge of whats going on and deals seem to take longer, years ago signings we just announced, I also think clubs and players are being more cautious

  7. I can understand Brentford wanting to tie down a replacement for Watkins but now that has been confirmed it would be good to get on with completing the move ASAP so that he can settle in with his new team mates before the season gets underway, the same of course applies to other signings Benrahma and Matt cash which seems to have gone quiet all of a sudden. We can’t expect to just throw new players in and expect them to hit the ground running they will need time, and we need the best possible start to the new season.
Hoping something is announced in the next day or so.
