The Ultimate Aston Villa Player Ratings For the Cardiff Game

The Cardiff City 3 Aston Villa 0 game was so epic that MOMS just had to do some Aston Villa player ratings for the first time ever.

The energetic, incisive attacking play, hustle and bustle and resolute defending, were all the ingredients that Villans were dying to see this season. There could have been a lot more goals too.

In short, it was Championship football at its very best.

Hopefully, Villa will learn from it.

 Aston Villa Player Ratings

Johnstone 7

Could become as good as Jed Steer if nurtured properly.

Hutton 5

Credit where it’s due. He’s earning a great wage from doing whatever he’s doing!

Terry 1

Chester 1

I used to think Chester was Villa’s most reliable player, but after this game, I’m #ChesterOut

Taylor 2

Still better than Jordan Amavi

Elmohamady 6

Injury foiled him scoring a brace today and contributing a couple of assists. Shame.

Whelan 1

Too old. Looked like a crab.

Onomah 7

Not really a Villa player, so we’ll let him off. Can we make him captain?

Lansbury 1

Cut. The. Man bun. Off. Son.

Hogan 3

He would be Villa’s best player, if someone would care to pass to him. Don’t think it’s going to happen in any game this season though.

Agbonlahor 1

He’s already scored his token goal for the season, so no idea why Bruce picked him against Cardiff.

Subs…

Adomah 7 (30)

Big bonus points for coming on as a sub and then being subbed off himself. Class.

O’Hare 9 (58)

He’s from the Villa academy, so we’ll hype him. Excellent.

Hourihane 6 (77)

First league appearance of the season. Plus five points for getting on the pitch.

Bench…

Steer 10

Great clean sheet. MOTM for the second game running.

Samba 8

Looked more likely to score than Agbonlahor

Bree 7

Contributed much more than Hutton at right-back

Bjarnason 8

Got into the best positions of his Villa career

Bruce 0

Still looking for some tactics. Made Neil Warnock look like a god.

  1. The coaching crew should be reviewed before is too late, Dr Xia should be commended for his efforts so far.

  2. Fair play. I had a bit of moan at you guys last season for the negativity but that’s made me laugh. That performance was so bad, all you can do is laugh. Won’t be funny in 2 or 3 games time if things don’t pick up though. Worryingly I suspect Bruce is waiting for Kodja and hoping we can go back to the ‘desperate defending / hoof to Kodja’ tactics that half worked at times last season. Can’t wait!

  3. Good summary but overly generous in some areas…let’s be honest – Neil Taylor can’t tackle or is now too scared to tackle. Hutton was a joke – was ripped apart 3 times before the goal. Where was Terry’s leadership quality yesterday? Whelan is a typical Bruce player – old, slow and sideways. Lansbury – why didn’t he get pelters last week too (I actually thought Bacuna played better than him). Has he got photos of Bruce??? Just not eager enough to play for us. Gabby is Gabby…lazy and fat. Adomoah shouldn’t bother turning up for the coach to be honest. I feel for players like Bree and Bjanasson and Hourihane who have to sit on the bench and watch that. I wonder if Onomah is wondering what he has done now?! Can’t wait for Tuesday and another Bruce masterclass of no tactics, shape and purpose. With the ticketing fiasco at the club (despite calling no tickets for me to collect at Cardiff yesterday) I actually felt embarrassed to be a Villa fan yesterday.

  4. Huff and puff and once again its all bluff. .More time should have been spent on building a team than getting rid of the hangers on. In fact, we look more like a rest home for anyone who just wants another year in the sunset. Cut the crap, Villa are awful and we all know it.

  5. Just watched the post match interview with Bruce on Facebook. Twice, he claims he’s been at the club “six months now”. He obviously needs more time. If he had been here ten months I would be calling for his head….

    • Fat head has not produced one good performance in his tenure.
If we go one nil down it’s over, he has no answers.

      BRUCE OUT

  6. Fed up with saying no goals no wins, it’s just the same old same old and as for promotion in your dreams comes to mind, not wishing to be a Bruce brasher but in honesty I have never rated him.
I can’t see us getting a result on Tuesday and if that is the case 3 games 1 point simply not good enough. We’re in desparate need of a new striker as back up to Kodjia if he ever comes back otherwise I’m sorry to say it will be too late again. Promotion favourites. Dream on.

  7. Thanks MOMS. Great humour in the face of intense disappointment. First time I’ve smiled since kick off at three o’ clock. But really, where do we go from here? My question before the season started was “Top of the league by Christmas, or looking for a new manager by October?” It’s early days, and I’m trying to comfort myself by remembering we have one more point at this stage than Newcastle, who went up as Champions, did last season. But I think I’m probably delusional.

    • Two games gone, no alarm bells in the context of just this season. Overall, under Bruce’s reign, there certainly is. Still, lets give it a few more games and see how it begins to unfold.

      • No Goals in team ? But we have Icelands top goal scorer in squad . Oh but I forgot hewas sat on bench again !

  8. if only we could sign peter crouch, then bruce would have the excuse that his team is too old.
