‘Lescott being at another club will be ‘a weight off the shoulders’ of most Villa supporters’

Lescott Escape Route

The saga of Joleon Lescott’s supposed exit from Aston Villa on a free transfer rumbles on.

The initial opportunity of a two-year deal with Rangers seemed to be a decent deal for the Villa centre-back and also for the newly-promoted Rangers, who were looking to make an instant impact on their return to the Scottish Premiership.

With the Lescott turning 34 this month, he would have found the perfect league to extend his career in, with the prospect of two more seasons a reality.

Villa would have no doubt covered a percentage of his wages in the first year, but the prime objective was to get rid.

An early report from the BBC suggested the defender had failed his medical, something they have refused to back down on since, despite Villa owner Tony Xia declaring there was no problem with the medical. Also, from Rangers’ end they had stated Lescott had failed to agree personal terms, while Xia and reports south of the border suggested that the player didn’t want to uproot his family to Glasgow (but wouldn’t he had thought about that before starting talks?).

Uprooting Issue?

The later suggestion seems even more odd, when you consider Lescott was reportedly very keen on a move to LA Galaxy last season, which would have meant uprooting for the states.

Also, it’s been reported that the best offers he’s had since the Rangers situation are a possible two-year deal with AEK Athens of Greece and also an initial one-year deal with newly promoted Pescara of Italy’s Serie A. Both country’s press seem adamant in thinking that Lescott is close to joining their respective teams – but both of them can’t be right.

So either Lescott suddenly had second-thoughts and didn’t want to move short-term to Glasgow – although that didn’t seem to be of an issue for former teammate Scott Sinclair and his young family – or someone is telling porkies.

Whatever is true or false, one thing is for sure, as soon as the transfer window shuts, Lescott being at another club will certainly be ‘a weight off the shoulders’ of most Villa supporters after the defender’s contribution to the farce of last season.

  1. Mr Confused ,Lescott can’t move to Rangers, it’s too far for the family .But has no problem moving to Greece.I must have missed something ?

  2. LA is a bit different from Glasgow, can’t compare the two equally. Nor is Sinclair in the same situation as there was already a connection with the manager.
The BBC report though, no author, no definitive language (“Understands” is a good as “Believes” in my book, neither are fact), typical modern journalism. They have a terrible agenda these days.
Lescott unfortunately like seemingly a lot of Villa fans who play for the team, just doesn’t seem to work. Don’t care what is true now just want him gone and would like a decent replacement in the next day or two. Tho with the last games showing, we can change the whole team, but not the results.

    • Oh, and if CaughtOffside is to be believed his kids will be having Greek holidays, he passed his AEK medical.
