Villa Paper Wrap: Wishes, Apologies, Motivational Speeches and Fan Engagement

Most fans certainly believe Agbonlahor was assisted with, especially since the 29-year-old managed to use a semi-colon correctly.

Petrov’s Wish

On Tuesday we received some of the best news for a long while as Villa fans. Stiliyan Petrov dropped the news that he was looking to return to professional football in a claret and blue shirt. The Guardian reported on how the Bulgarian is eager to get back on the turf at Villa Park and lead the team to some promotion glory next year. The 36-year-old revealed to us that he’s been training with the Under 21s for a few months and has informed the club about his intentions during pre-season.

Every single Villa fan in the country would have smiled with joy when hearing this news. Next season is massive for us and if Petrov is in the dressing room leading the team for every single game I’ll be certainly more comfortable. We’ve lacked a real leader for years and Gabby’s recent antics have shown that, so if the former captain returned it’d be a major addition. Good Luck Stan!

Pearson Out Front

The Mirror reported on the ex-Leicester manager holding a second interview with Villa’s chairman Steve Hollis. They believe that Nigel Pearson will be the one to take the helm next season as Hollis holds him in high regard. After debating over whether he or David Moyes will take charge, we’ve now been provided with a hint towards who will establish a deal with the club for next season.

However, it’d be good to take this report with a pinch of salt whilst the club’s ownership is still in limbo. Randy Lerner is keen to sell and any player or manager incomings are likely to be sorted under the new owners. Although, with Pearson being so heavily linked with the club, MOMS still certainly thinks he’s a good option for the job.

However, Paddy Power seem to think Steve Bruce is in pole position!

Gabby Says Sorry

Another week, another Gabby headline! The Telegraph reported on how the Birmingham born striker has crafted a letter of apology for the fans whilst stepping down as club captain. Following weeks of media attention, Gabby has finally recognised his wrongdoings after a stern warning and fine from the club. The apology came on Instagram, which most fans certainly believe Agbonlahor was assisted with, especially since the 29-year-old managed to use a semi-colon correctly.

The apology is really all too late for Gabby as he’s already alienated the fans through his poor performances over the last few years. From fitness regimes to shisha pipes in this campaign, he’s certainly hammered a plethora of nails in his coffin when it comes to his status amongst the fans. He’s been suspended for this weekend but will return into contention for the home game against Newcastle.

Takeover Update and New Fan Connections

Before the game against Southampton a new fan consultation group, set up by Steve Hollis, held a meeting to discuss the most prominent issues when it comes to fan and club connections. Hollis and Brian Little were in attendance as MOMS and a variety of other Villa fan page representatives made up the newly founded group. The meetings aim to give the fans more of an input into the club and an insight into the direction.

In the first proper meeting, Hollis was questioned about the takeover developments in recent weeks. He enlightened us that the recent newspaper reports about a takeover were true and that he was doing his upmost to make sure the business was hasty.

Saving Private Villa Fans

A lighter piece of news as our Hollywood supporter, Tom Hanks, sent a message to the claret and blue faithful to stay strong in our lowest time. The BBC had the video of the Forrest Gump star giving us a motivational speech about how the fans need to stay proud because times will change for the better. Some supporters even stated that they found Hanks’ speech more sincere than Gabby Agbonlahor’s apology.
