Villa Show Stomach for Relegation Fight, as Samatta’s Wild Card Challenge Begins

Listen to the Show Below…

Villa’s Fight Gives Hope

Despite some choppy waters over the Christmas period with poor results and serious injuries, all-in, it’s been a decent enough start to 2020 for Aston Villa.

Some decent results against their relegation rivals, some astute January window signings, and the prospect of a Cup Semi-final second leg at Villa Park.

If Villa can first overcome Leicester City in the League Cup and then survive in the Premier League this season, it’ll go down as a decent first full season for Dean Smith.

A lot will depend on how quickly Mbwana Ally Samatta settles in. He is expected to make his Villa Park debut against Foxes in the cup, and will be something of a wild card, with both Brendan Rodgers and Villa supporters none the wiser to how he’ll fit into Villa’s team.

In many respects, most Villans will be happy to just have a striker on the pitch, but he could add his name to Villa folklore, if he scores and gets his new club to Wembley.

New Show

In the latest MOMS podcast episode (97), David and Chris are joined by Max Stokes (Villa on Tour) to discuss the relegation picture and Villa’s rivals in it. Talk also turns to the January window, the incoming Eniola Aluko (Sporting Director for the Villa Women’s team), Jack Grealish’s young replacement.

There’s also discussion of happenings outside the Villaverse, including, 10-year season tickets and Ibiza away days.

Plus, there’s the first Scott Hogan Touch Count challenge of 2020, where we find out more about one of Villa’s new signings. Could Hogan really end up at Blues?

  1. Just read that we are being linked with Slimani again, what are the club thinking about that smacks of desperation and the vast majority of fans will tell you he’s not going to help us. I can see us getting to the end of the window with the excuse that we ran out of time. And if we do that then we may well have run out of time to secure our survival.

  2. Wanyama decent but no where near match fit, so how long are we looking at before he makes a contribution weeks or months? Friday is dead line day and our last chance so come on let’s get this done now, stop faffing around, if Fridays deadline passes with no signing the club will have themselves to blame and it may very well result in us playing in the Championship next season. Move now Villa while we have a little time left.
