Finally Aston Villa get back-to-back wins after skipping a season with such an occurrence and what a winning goal to crown the achievement. Jonathan Kodjia’s scissor kick stunner was the kind of magic moment that has been sadly missing from Villa Park in recent years.
It was Kodjia’s third goal in three games; he’s now scored in every game Steve Bruce has managed Villa. The best thing about it though was it provided a seriously spooky déjà vu moment for Villans.
There’s a train of thought that if you’ve watched enough football in your life – a couple of decades at least – you’ve pretty much seen it all. That’s why something like Liverpool’s last European Cup final win after being 3-0 down at half-time against AC Milan, was a remarkable one-of-a-kind event that even impressed the most jaded football viewer.
Villa’s relegation last season may have been new in terms of Premier League history, but most Villans over 20-years-old, will remember the last one. Supporters of a similar age would have also noticed something strangely familiar about Jonathan Kodjia’s wonderful winner against Fulham.

Scored on his birthday, Kodjia’s goal led to the immediate flashback of Tony Daley’s goal in the 2-0 win against Everton at Villa Park in the 1988/89 season. The cross from Chris Price and the sublime finish from Daley are almost identical.

The comparisons don’t end there. The spookiest thing about the goal’s similarity was they were scored on exactly the same date – 22nd October!
Henceforth, maybe the date should be National Scissor Kick Day at Villa Park?

Hey MOMS. You missed another coincidence on the goal. Both players had birthdays that week.
Pretty close to a world class goal. Thought him to be a buy too far, but was wrong, shame we bought McCormack first really. Haven’t had a sublime striker in donkeys. Still the ANC will hurt us more deeply if he’s the only scorer.

Great player, great goal, extend his contract now.
We gave Paul Lambert a new four-year extension after he started the season with 10 points from the first 12. We all know how that ended. I think Kodjia is on a decent enough contract as it is!
