What Exactly Happened to Recon’s Naming Rights Deal of Aston Villa’s Training Ground

The Return of Bodymoor Heath

A couple of days ago MOMS ran a story on the fact that the Recon Training Complex signs had vanished from Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training and what that ultimately could mean.

With the Villa Fan Consultation Group meeting with Villa CEO Christian Purslow on Tuesday evening, it presented a chance to get an answer from the horse’s mouth, so to speak, and indeed Purslow addressed it without any fuss.

Essentially, as part of the sale of Tony Xia’s control of the club (he still remains a minority share shoulder) his provision of that naming right deal of one of his companies ended.

So the five-year deal renaming of Bodymoor Heath to Recon Training Complex is no more.

As we said earlier in an article dismissing the rumours of Villa Park being renamed, while Purslow is against any renaming of Villa Park stadium, that philosophy he stressed does not apply to Bodymoor Heath.

It’s something the club will look at further down the line, but it’s not currently on the table at the moment.

More to come from the insightful meeting with the Villa CEO when the meeting’s minutes are released and published.
